Droid Dock

by on Nov.03, 2009, under Accessories

Where do you keep your cell phone at night?  If you are like many, it sits near your bedside.  For some in my family, it is the night stand alarm clock and phone.  (My children don’t even have a wired phone in their homes.  So, the cell must be nearby.)  Unfortunately, the phone just hangs off a tethered charger.

If your cell has a docking station, the station adds little value.  For example, my Treo dock was more useful near my computer for HotSync than near my bed.

The Motorola Droid Multimedia Station is more than an alarm clock.

The Motorola Droid Multimedia Station is more than an alarm clock.

Welcome to the Motorola Droid Multimedia Station.  It is a docking station is that totally different than what we’ve seen before.

When you insert the Droid at an angle, it automatically detects that it is in the Multimedia Station.  Of course, it charges while in the dock, just like the Treo dock.  But that is where the similarity ends.

The Droid multimedia station displays the time and functions as an alarm clock.  Nice.  It also displays the outside temperature and the weather.  Good morning in a glance!

In the multimedia station, the Droid also plays music and videos.

The price is $30, which is about the same price as docking stations from other products.  And, it does have a USB cable to connect to a PC.

Does it have an audio out from the port? I would like to hook up speakers to it.

Unfortunately, no. It does not have an audio port and it does not have a slot to charge a second battery. It also has the annoying habit of automatically turning on the Droid even after I shut it down for faster charging.

All in all, I think the Droid Dock is a negative. However — on the plus side — it does include a charger in the price. I can always use a charger.

You can plug speakers into the audio out jack on the droid i plug it in to my stero at home and usse the volume control there. it is not blocked by the dockig station so just add a 3.5 mm to (y) rca red/white or speaker system.

Actually the Droid turns on any time you plug it into any charger. I think it's a bug being fixed in the Dec 11 update.

The idea of the dock is that you don't have to play with the wires. You just want to drop the thing on the dock and that should be it. Also, what will happen if a call comes? You'll have to free the phone from the wires before you can answer. To me not having an audio output and still calling it a media dock is a joke.

The Droid case is real smooth and a little difficult to hold on to so I purchased a rubber case and holster from Verizon. Another $30 bucks but figured better than dropping it. ONCE INSTALLED, IT WILL NO LONGER FIT IN THE HOME DOCK!! One or the other so the Dock is going back. Loved it though. Do not know about the car dock. Just a heads up that might save you a trip back to the Verizon store.

why does my dock to the droid drain my battery? Every morning since I got it my phone is dead. So I start my day with no phone very disappointing.

Check out the mikradle on ebay…solves the problem of not fitting with the case on it.

Bought my docking station a month ago and loved it until…two nights ago I plugged it in at night and after a few minutes it turned off! I don't remember making a setting changes that would prevent it from staying on. Any ideas on what the problem could be???

I was told that if I didn’t buy this from Verizon or Motorola, it would void the warranty. Even though it was made by Motorola. So, if you buy one through Amazon, your warranty is void.

Sound illegal? We should start a lawsuit!

Any good class action lawyers out there?

Is there a docking station compatible with the Droid Incredible?

Nothing official on the Verizon accessory page yet, but I'm sure it won't be long.

If you buy a sedio case you can also get a sedio car dock and I believe they may have a desktop dock as well. It will accept the phone with or without the sedio case on the phone. (Has a removable adapter for acceptiong w/o the sedio case)

Will texts and email show in a chat window if the dock is plugged into my PC via USB?

I have the Droid Docking Station and ever since the last update to the Droid about a month ago, whenever I put my phone in the docking station, it won’t stay on the docking station screen. It either goes to just a floating around clock, only if I hit the home button first, or to a black (sleep) screen if I don’t hit the home button. I use the docking station at work so I can stream radio in my office as my office blocks radio steaming through our computers and regular radios don’t have good reception in the building for some reason. Is there anything I can do to make the screen go back to it normal docking station look and have it hold there?

I am an avid droid user and have actually purchased a second docking station for my desk at work! I love that I never have to think about charging it up, and it is ready to go in an instant. A few drawbacks still with no output, and not compatible with certain screen protectors, but overall a great accessory.

It used to, but apparently ages fast. Despite careful treatment, now all it does is drain my battery when plugged into the wall, and it HAS NOT BEEN DAMAGED. It just doesn’t last for crap, apparently.
