Samsung ditching WinMo for Android

It seems that Android is everywhere these days, with every major carrier announcing new Android based devices in recent weeks. While the hottest Droid’s are often pitted against the iPhone, Android’s battle for market share is currently being fought against Blackberry’s, Symbian and WinMo devices.
Microsoft and its Windows Mobile (WinMo) platform may become the latest victim in this battle as Samsung is planning to drop WinMo from most of its new phones in favor of Android, as uncovered in an investment note issued earlier this week:
HMC Investment Securities analyst Greg Noh understands that the Korean company’s use of Windows Mobile will crash from 80 percent this year to just 50 percent in 2010 and will lower further still in future years. Just 20 percent of Samsung’s phones should use the platform by 2012. In exchange, Samsung will increase its use of Android to about 30 percent next year and keep the percentage relatively constant through the same period.
Samsung has not commented on these claims.
