Verizon Droid Incredible Starting Android 2.2 Froyo Update Today
by sm on Aug.27, 2010, under Carriers, Devices
Long awaited, often rumored, now reality – the Incredible is getting the Android 2.2 OTA update starting today. The first announcement showed up on twitter this morning from the official VZW account.

Then Verizon posted update instructions on its support website.
All OTA (Over the Air) Updates are staggered to avoid system overload. So it may still take a few days before Froyo actually shows up on your phone. Still no luck on my Droid Incredible, when I checked a few minutes ago.
If you still wonder what all the hubbub is about: This release will bring Adobe Flash, application auto update and improved battery performance, amongst some other general improvements to the Incredible. It will make this cool Droid even better.
Voice Mail WAV Files on Android

Our company phone system allows me to forward voice mails as file attachments. Unfortunately, playing the WAV files on my Android phone doesn’t work. There are some apps in the market that allow you to play the different wav-file formats, but I decided it wasn’t worth buying/installing yet another app for the few times I needed this feature. Instead, I enabled a simple conversion-mail-back service on the DroidStory server.
If you ever need a quick conversion of a voice mail wav file to mp3, simply forward your email containing the attachment to wav2mp3_at_droidstory_dot_com and you’ll get a MP3 file mailed back.
That’s it, no registration or setup required. Enjoy!
PS: No worries – your privacy is ensured. Our server space is much too valuable to keep your files. All data gets removed right after conversion. Guaranteed!
Android Taking the Lead Ahead of RIM and Apple
by sm on Aug.05, 2010, under News
The NPD Group published its latest research report yesterday, showing that Android took the lead spot in handsets sold to US consumers in Q2, counting for 33 percent of all smartphones purchased. This puts Android ahead of RIM (28 percent) and Apple (22 percent).
“For the second consecutive quarter, Android handsets have shown strong but slowing sell-through market share gains among U.S. consumers,” said Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis for NPD. “While the Google-developed OS took market share from RIM, Apple’s iOS saw a small gain this quarter on the strength of the iPhone 4 launch.”
Based on U.S. consumer purchases of mobile phones in Q2, the top 5 Android smartphones were as follows:
- Motorola Droid
- HTC Droid Incredible
- HTC EVO 4G
- HTC Hero
- HTC Droid Eris
Droid Does Not Ship Until August

Wow! Both high-end Droid’s, the Motorola DroidX and the HTC Droid Incredible are sold out at Verizon. What’s up with that? It seems odd that powerhouse Motorola can’t keep up with the sales demand, manufacturing enough units for the launch.
Is this just the latest marketing fad in showing off the popularity of a product by artificially limiting initial supply, or are component shortages truly to blame? Either way it looks like both phones are sold-out online and in stores.
